A claims made insurance policy will cover claims reported during the policy
period and are triggered by an event that occurred on or after the policy
retroactive date. The retroactive date is the day the claims made malpractice
insurance policy was purchased.

Occurrence malpractice insurance coverage is based on the event that triggers
a claim rather than the claim itself. Any claim that is triggered by an event when
the insurance policy was in force will be covered, regardless of whether the
policy is still in force when the claim is submitted.

For instance: a doctor treats a patient in 2005 and receives a claim today for that
treatment. The doctors malpractice insurance policy with ABC insurance carrier
in 2005 will cover that claim.
